It’s a new world

Wow… several posts ago I mentioned that I had been writing my thoughts about the Obama Presidential campaign, and somehow all my work just disappeared. Well, I found it in a ‘draft’ file. Who knew? Like I’ve said before, I’m still getting the hang of this blogging stuff! Anyway, now that I’ve found it, I’ll put it out there. See below! I originally wrote this on January 26th. Better late than never!

It’s a new day, filled with possibilities! I mentioned in an earlier post that I was still doing a happy dance over the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. I don’t have any Pollyanna notion that everything will be instantly better now. But I do believe we’re on our way to better. How wonderful to have a man of intelligence, integrity, and heart sitting in the Oval Office!

I continue to be impressed with Obama’s use of technology. There has never been a campaign like his. This was the first time I’d ever contributed to a political campaign. I did it by going online to Obama’s campaign website. After that first contribution I became part of the network. I was included in ongoing updates on the campaign and informed on how I could be more involved in the grassroots movement to put Barack Obama in the White House. And I contributed to the campaign more than once. It was so easy to hit that Donate button! It was a very smart, very effective campaign.

I wondered then if Barack Obama’s team would continue to use that email network to stay connected with his supporters. The answer is yes. I continue to get updates and messages about what’s next and how I can help. I feel included, like part of the team. How great is that? This is a wonderful example of  how the internet is working to connect us at a grassroots level. Wonderful!

Speaking of new things, I’m now learning about Facebook. Lots to see and learn out there. First this blog, and now Facebook. Who knows, I may eventually get a website up! And then there’s Etsy… where will it end?
