Say it with Heart!
I’ll repost my thoughts about Obama’s campaign later, as it’s time to get ready for work. But I’ll try again to put up the poster. Let’s see it this works…

It’s a new day, filled with possibilities! I mentioned in an earlier post that I was still doing a happy dance over the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States. I don’t have any Pollyanna notion that everything will be instantly better now. But I do believe we’re on our way to better. How wonderful to have a man of intelligence, integrity, and heart sitting in the Oval Office!
I continue to be impressed with Obama’s use of technology. There has never been a campaign like his. This was the first time I’d ever contributed to a political campaign. I did it by going online to Obama’s campaign website. After that first contribution I became part of the network. I was included in ongoing updates on the campaign and informed on how I could be more involved in the grassroots movement to put Barack Obama in the White House. And I contributed to the campaign more than once. It was so easy to hit that Donate button! It was a very smart, very effective campaign.
I wondered then if Barack Obama’s team would continue to use that email network to stay connected with his supporters. The answer is yes. I continue to get updates and messages about what’s next and how I can help. I feel included, like part of the team. How great is that? This is a wonderful example of how the internet is working to connect us at a grassroots level. Wonderful!
Speaking of new things, I’m now learning about Facebook. Lots to see and learn out there. First this blog, and now Facebook. Who knows, I may eventually get a website up! And then there’s Etsy… where will it end?
I admit it — I’m a terrible blogger! I haven’t mastered the technology, and this is supposed to be one of the easiest blog sites. I guess I’m hopeless. But it seems like whenever I try to add a new photo or other pdf file, I fail. In addition to that, I’m not keeping up with regular postings. I like the idea of having a blog and networking with others, but I’m having a hard time getting up to speed. Is it my age or am I just techno-impaired? Anyone reading this, please bear with me!
To catch up, it’s been a busy year. Bob and I are still blissfully married and approaching our 3rd anniversary. We spent many happy hours this last year puttering in our gardens (he’s in charge of the veggies, I’m in charge of the flowers), watching the birds enjoy our dozen plus backyard feeding stations, and spending creative time in our side-by-side studios. Right now Bob is well into another Alaska-themed painting, a real beauty! I’ll try to post a picture of his work in progress.
I participated in a number of art shows, festivals and bazaars in 2008. Nearest and dearest to my heart is the LOCAL 14 Art Show and Sale, always the first weekend in October at the World Forestry Center. There are always serendipitous things that come about as a result of my being in that show. One of the neat things that happened this year was that I was later contacted by the co-owner of Metalurges Gallery in SE Portland. He had seen my Note Totes at LOCAL 14 and invited me to participate in a holiday event at the gallery called 12 x 12 x 12 (Twelve media, Twelve artists, Twelfth month). The show was a success, and my Note Totes were a hit. In fact, I was happy to agree to keep a supply of notebooks and Note Totes available at the gallery year ’round. If you’re in the SE Portland neighborhood be sure to check out Metalurges Gallery at 3601 SE Division, and tell them Kris Zorko sent you! The gallery is filled with wonderful art including metal wall pieces and clocks by Susan Levine and imaginative works by many other artists.
Now it’s 2009, and I am still doing a happy dance now that Barack Obama has been elected as President! I am filled with relief and hope.
My first show of the year will be Say it with Heart (refer to last year’s post on this show). Back by popular demand, artist Jude Cornwell is once again hosting this show at 4546 NE 47th Ave., just north of Prescott in the Beaumont Village neighborhood. The show will be February 7th and 8th. This is a fun show with a great selection of beautiful art and handcrafted items from local artists. I hope to see you there!
