Artists Collaborated with HeArt!

A few weekends ago I participated in a Valentine gift-themed show, Say It With HeArt. My friend and talented fibre artist Jude Cornwell organized and hosted the event in her antique and art-filled home in the Beaumont Village area of Portland. A wonderful mix of artists came together for a day and a half. Offerings included ceramics, fused glass, ribbon flowers, jewelry, photography, heart pins and wearables, mixed-media shrines, and other wonderful gift items. I added my handmade soaps, notebooks, Note Totes and wearable art pins to the mix.

The sale was very successful for me, and I look forward to doing more of that type of small, intimate, collaborative show. What I liked best about it was getting to know the other talented artists. Everyone worked together to put on a first-class event. Publicity was mostly word-of-mouth and email notices to our various customer lists. Mixed media artist Jane Russell, who is also a top-notch designer, put together a beautiful postcard and flyer. I’m posting a copy of it, along with a few photos of the sale displays. A list of the participating artists, along with links to their websites and/or blogs, can be found at www.sayitwithheart.blogspot.com
If I knew more about adding links, etc. I’d add all of them here. This whole blog thing is going to be quite a learning curve for me!

Hello! I’m uploading a few pictures of my handmade notebooks and Note Totes. These first few photos were taken in 2007 by photographer Dan Kvitka. At some point I’d like to try my hand at taking some photos for use on this blog, but I think I’ll stick to the work of professionals like Dan for photos to be used for promotional purposes.

These were originally taken for use on the LOCAL 14 website. I am proud to be a member of LOCAL 14 and will talk more about this dynamic group of women artists over time. The group was formed over 40 years ago by 14 women artists in the Lake Oswego area (LOCAL stands for Lake Oswego Crafts and Art League). For more information on this group and the annual show we put on in October, go to www.local14.org

I’ll be sharing favorite quotes on this blog and would love to hear what favorite quotes you have, as I collect them. Here’s one for today…

Hello!

This is my first ever attempt at creating a blog, so ‘pardon my dust,’ so to speak. I’m a paper artist living in the Pacific Northwest . Paper addict might be closer to the mark! I’m fairly low-tech and have been trying to get a website up for a few years, but so far all I’ve managed to do is pay for a domain name. The site is still under construction and may be for some time. I’m relying on the kindness of more tech-savvy friends to help me, and busy schedules being what they are…

But I keep hearing how easy and user-friendly blogs are, so I thought I’d give this a go. My intent here is to share some thoughts on the joys of creating, post some photos of my work, share some favorite quotes… whatever. I’d love to hear from others with similar interests!

My main focus right now is on paper arts. I love making paper, marbling paper, and making books. My Note Totes (copyright 2002 Kris Young) are refillable sticky note holders. I also make larger notebooks that hold 5″ x 8″ notepads. I’ve had a great deal of success selling these at local gift shops and at art festivals and shows in the Portland area.
